ASHLEY GRIMES' 89th-minute leveller denied Town a derby victory.
Danny Ward's close-range finish in the 69th minute looked like it was going to earn the three points.
The close-season signing from Bolton came off the bench to score from Lee Novak's low cross.
Novak had given Town a 15th-minute lead by shooting his third of the season after a neat one-two with Scott Arfield.
And both Novak and Arfield had goalbound efforts blocked before Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro levelled against the run of play in the 43rd minute.
Town also had the better of the second half, but were left to rue Grimes' sweet finish from just inside the area.
