Town's friendly at Wakefield was called off because of the condition of the College Grove pitch.
The decision was taken by Town manager Lee Clark, his Wakefield counterpart Ronnie Glavin and the match referee as fans started to arrive.
The surface was hard, uneven and patchy in places, and both bosses were concerned at the possibility of injuries.
Town have agreed to rearrange the match against the Evo-Stik (Northern Premier) League side, although no date has been confirmed.
