Ian Holloway has written off Huddersfield Town’s Championship chances and predicts they will get relegated!

While other sources are saying Town will perform much better in 2016/17, Holloway has pinned his colours to the mast and marked them for the trapdoor.

The experienced former player and manager is now a pundit for Sky and has made his predictions for where clubs will finish in the campaign.

Town, of course, with 12 new senior signings and backed by a 15,000-strong army of season-card holders – the £179 deadline is 9pm tonight – kick off the new season on Saturday against Brentford at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Holloway is scathing of the club’s chances of success under head coach David Wagner in reckoning they will finish second-bottom in 23rd, with only Rotherham below the Terriers.

On the Sky Sports website, Holloway reveals his predicted final table with Newcastle at the top, Brighton second and Norwich third.

Of Town, however, he says: “I haven’t seen much progression from the club during the back end of last season.

“David Wagner is pretty inexperienced and if results turn, then they may struggle to turn things around.”

Holloway reckons the bottom four will be Burton Albion, Brentford, Town and Rotherham.

He also believes Leeds United will get into the play-off positions in sixth, with Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County and Norwich City above them (behind the top two).

Part of Sky’s Football League analysis team, Holloway’s comments are at odds with many others.

Sporting Life website say of the John Smith’s side : “David Wagner, who worked with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund for a number of years, is taking charge of Huddersfield for his first full season and he’s overseen a dramatic transformation of his squad.

“Germany has naturally been an obvious destination for Wagner’s recruitment drive but that leaves the Terriers with a line-up that could well be lacking in Championship experience as the months unfold.

“It could alternatively be a masterstroke that leaves rivals unable to cope with their different style of play, but my inkling is that the 13/2 for Huddersfield in the relegation betting is just a little too big.”

Radio Yorkshire presenter and Terriers fan Andy Lawson said : “It’s a tough one to answer, because they’ve changed so much of what they do on and off the pitch.

“They’ve brought in 12 players and Wagner is bringing his style of player in. It could be play-offs or the same as last season.”

The Football League World website says : “The realist in me acknowledged that Huddersfield remains as one of the smaller clubs in the championship particularly financially.

“However, if David Wagner can replicate the success he had with Chris Powell’s squad with his own personnel, Huddersfield could have an excellent season.

“It is dependent on how the foreign exports adapt to the fast-paced and physical nature of the Championship.

“There is a clear vision which has been dubbed the ‘Wagner Revolution’.

“The squad and Wagner’s vision of Huddersfield is in it’s earliest stages, so I expect Huddersfield next season to finish comfortably in mid-table or in the lower rungs of the top half, pushing for the top-ten finish.”
