AMBITIOUS Scholes have received a grant worth hundreds of pounds to replace their football posts.

The high-flying District Division II outfit, who boast former Town player Rob Edwards in their squad, have received £611 from the Football Foundation’s Goalpost Safety Scheme.

Since 1991 nine young players have been killed in Britain by unsafe goals and many more have been seriously injured by posts and crossbars that fail to meet basic safety standards.

Teaming up with the Football Association, the Football Foundation have earmarked almost £4m to replace unsafe goals in schools, clubs and parks throughout England.

Scholes treasurer David Buckley said: “This funding towards new, safer goalposts is a fantastic boost.

“Football is our national sport and it is great that the Football Foundation is investing in improving the grassroots of the game.”

And, in another financial boost, Scholes have received three new kits and club jackets from the following sponsors:

S Wadsworth Roofing, G B Construction Supply Group Ltd, Star Scaffold, Holme Valley Ceramics, D C Roofing, Leyfield Interactive, S+S Roofing, Abacus Stone Sales, RJW Creations, CHO Construction and Brooklands Nursery.
