SCUNTHORPE United have confirmed their interest in Town midfielder Michael Collins – but say they are still “a long, long way” from completing a deal.
Glanford Park manager Nigel Adkins was given permission to talk to Collins by Town counterpart Lee Clark, and he has already done that. Talks are ongoing with regard to a transfer fee for the 24-year-old, who has two years left on his Galpharm deal.
“He is a player we tried to sign a couple of years ago when we brought in David Mirfin from there, but the manager then, Stan Ternant, would not let us,” explained Adkins.
“Michael is a player who I feel would fit perfectly into the culture we have here at Glanford Park.
“He is six feet one inches tall, is a great athlete and has the versatility to fit into several different roles.
“He can play just behind the front man and loves to score goals.
“He is a player I would love to bring here to Scunthorpe but we are still a long, long way from a deal being reached.”
Collins was made available for transfer by Town at the end of last season.
