Sean Scannell insists Huddersfield Town have the firepower to trouble bristling Brighton in Saturday’s South Coast Championship showdown.

Mark Robins’ men drew a blank at home to Reading last time out, when 12-goal top scorer James Vaughan was out with an ankle problem.

The boss is hoping both the 25-year-old and midfielder Jonathan Hogg (hip) will prove their fitness is up to figuring at the Amex Stadium.

But Scannell, formerly with Brighton’s arch-rivals Crystal Palace, says that even without that duo, Town have what it takes to claim a fourth away victory this season.

“Against Reading we did everything but score. We played really well and on another day we might have won 4-1,” said the forward.

“The only thing that let us down was our ability to put the ball in the net. That ultimately proved to be the only real difference between us.

“If we’d lost 1-0 having not created any chances at all then we might have a problem. But that’s not the case.

While Martin Paterson hit a post, Scannell came close to a late leveller and explained: “I was told to try to nick a goal and I nearly did. I headed it but the ball came off the back of a defender.”

Scannell came off the bench along with Duane Holmes and Spaniard Cristian Lopez, who made a second league appearance for Town.

“Cristian is still adapting to the English game, but he is a good player who I’m sure can be a weapon for us,” added Scannell.

“He’s a good finisher and he has pace. He also likes putting pressure on defenders and with his skill on the ball, he can be hard to play against.”

Brighton are bossed by a Spaniard, Oscar Garcia, and have his compatriots Bruno, David Lopez, Inigo Calderon and Andrea Orlandi in their squad.

Watford have named Giuseppe Sannino as their new head coach to succeed Gianfranco Zola.

Italian Sannino, out of work since being sacked by Chievo in November, brings assistant coaches Francesco Troise, Giovanni Cusatis and Paolo De Toffo to Vicarage Road.
