HALIFAX Town were on the verge of going into liquidation after the club’s administrator said the debts were “insurmountable”.

Initial estimates put the debts at £500,000, but a creditors’ meeting was told the actual figure was around £814,000.

The proposal to pay 2.5p in the pound for all debts failed.

Administrator Rob Sadler said it was likely to mean the end of the Shaymen, of the Blue Square Premier, adding: “The cleanest way is to start from the bottom and build up again.”

A statement on the club’s fate is expected early next week.
