IT was all Shipp shape when Town and Peterborough clashed during the 1977 pre-season.

The game was part of the four-team Shipp Cup tournament organised by the Cambridgeshire FA which also involved Cambridge United and Sheffield Wednesday, the holders.

Played on a mini-league basis, Town took the trophy by wining all three games, with Peterborough seen off 5-1 at Leeds Road with two goals by Wayne Goldthorpe (left) and strikes by Jim McCaffrey, Terry Eccles and Terry Gray.

Cambridge had been beaten 1-0, also in Huddersfield, before Town clinched a 2-0 win over Wednesday at Hillsborough.

While Tom Johnston’s Town accrued the maximum six points (in the days of two for a win), the other three clubs finished with two apiece.
