TOWN left for their Essex training camp today with manager Peter Jackson proud of players and supporters alike.

Far from daunted by last night's 3-1 Carling Cup exit at Premiership Blackburn, Jackson is targeting a fifth win in six League I outings against Colchester United at Layer Road in 48 hours to strengthen the club's promotion push.

And Jackson believes Town - backed by around 4,000 fans in a crowd of 11,755 - can take heart from events at Ewood Park.

"I was so pleased with our performance last night and the fans were just excellent," said Jackson, who has Tom Clarke available again after his one-match ban.

"From start to finish they gave us a wonderful lift and, at the end of the game, you would have thought we were the winners.

"Everyone was disappointed we couldn't get the right result for them, but the fans gave us terrific backing and I hope they turn up in numbers over the next few months and cheer us on to promotion.

"I feel if we keep on going like we are and keep this squad together we can achieve our aim and try and get to the Championship."

Jackson put Andy Booth and Junior Mendes in the starting XI at the expense of Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Chris Brandon, while John McCombe deputised for young Clarke at the back.

"We have to learn that mistakes are going to get punished the higher up you go," added Jackson.

"I was disappointed with the goals conceded and, obviously, we didn't make the most of our chances, but our heads are held high."
