EFE SODJE could be stripped of the Town captaincy after his second red card of the season.

That was the warning from angry manager Peter Jackson, who saw Sodje sent-off for elbowing in last night's 6-3 LDV Vans Trophy defeat at Blackpool.

The incident mirrored Sodje's dismissal in the home League defeat by Barnsley in September and will cost the 31-year-old a hefty club fine, a three-match ban starting straight away and the chance to play against his younger brother Sami when Brentford visit the Galpharm Stadium on Sunday (3.00).

"Sodje has cost us dearly once again," fumed Jackson today.

"He will be fined heavily, the maximum I can fine him, because he has let me down, he's let the fans down and he's let his teammates down.

"He will now serve another three-match ban not long after completing the last one and why on earth he did it I don't know."

Sodje was sent-off by County Durham official Nigel Miller for elbowing Blackpool striker Keigan Parker in the face with just three minutes of the second half played.

It was 1-1 at the time and the second round tie finished 2-2 before Blackpool's man advantage really told in extra-time.

"The referee had no option but to send him off," added Jackson, who was today making efforts to bring goalkeeper Paul Rachubka back to the Galpharm on loan.

"It's not the first time it's happened and Efe now has a big battle to prove to me and his teammates that he deserves a place back in the side.

"I have had some very harsh words with him and explained to him that he's let everyone down big time. Once again I find myself very disappointed in him."

And the captaincy?

"You have to question the armband when things like this keep happening," he said.

"I know how much he enjoys being captain of the team, but he should show a better example to the younger players in the side and to the young fans who follow Huddersfield Town."
