ST PATRICK’S Athletic said a fond farewell to Huddersfield Town -bound defender Jake Carroll as they learned of a two-legged Europa League clash with Lithuanians VMFD Zalgiris.

Left-back Carroll, 21, will link up with Town for pre-season training on Thursday after his transfer was sealed back in April.

His 60 appearances for League of Ireland title chasers St Pat’s included Europa ties in Ukraine, Iceland and Germany.

And the Dublin club said on their website: “We would like to wish Jake all the best as he heads over to Huddersfield to join up with new club.”

The Europa first qualifying round draw also features Airbus UK v FK Ventspils, KR Reykjavik v Glentoran, Drogheda v Malmo, Itrottarfelag Fuglafjordur v Linfield, Prestatyn v SKL Metalurgs, Crusaders v Rosenborg and Bala v Levadia Tallinn.

Hibs will play Drogheda or Malmo in the second qualifying round.

Also entering at this stage are St Johnstone, who have drawn either Crusaders or Rosenborg.

Motherwell do not come in until the third qualifying round.

Celtic will face Northern Ireland’s Cliftonville in the Champions League second qualifying round.

Should the Scottish Premier League winners progress, they will need to win two more qualifying rounds to reach the group stages.

Sligo face Molde while TNS take on Legia Warsaw.
