TOWN'S Young Terriers come of age on Saturday!

The club's junior fans' organisation has been running for 21 years, and they plan to celebrate in style.

Original members and organisers will be present for a commemorative party in the McAlpine's Panasonic Suite from noon to 2pm before Town's match against Darlington.

A cake has been baked to mark the occasion, players past and present will be making guest appearances and there will be a special treat for the current Young Terriers - but that is remaining under wraps.

Chairman Steve Brooks said: "We have got a fair number of original members coming along and the intention is to make it a real family occasion.

"The club have laid on the Panasonic Suite for us and there will be all sorts of surprises for the kids during the afternoon.

"It makes you feel really old when some of the original members are turning up with kids of their own, but it should be a smashing day and one for everybody to remember."

Launched with help from former star player Steve Kindon, who was then Town's commercial manager, the concept of the YTs has paid off handsomely over the years.

"We have had well over 1,000 people as members over the years and raised a significant amount of money for the club," said Mr Brooks.

"The most important thing, though, is that we've introduced a lot of people to football and to Huddersfield Town and they have become the supporters of the future.

"It's fantastic, as well, that we are still going strong while many similar organisations have fallen by the wayside at League clubs, but that's down to a tremendous amount of voluntary help we've had over the years and each and every one of those people can take credit."

New members are welcome - the YTs normally meet on home Saturday's at the sports centre - while this weekend in the Panasonic, the focus will be on old and existing members.

"It will be great to see some of the old faces," added Mr Brooks, who gets regular backing from First buses to provide transport.

Next event will be a trip to Barnsley Metrodome, while team manager Peter Jackson has promised current players will continue to attend meetings.
