TOWN Ladies put up a great fight before going down 3-1 to Leeds United in the semi-final of the West Riding County Cup.

The Huddersfield girls began strongly against the National Premier side and went close to taking the lead in the fifth minute but Jade Robshaw's shot went just wide.

Leeds began to settle down and took the lead after 10 minutes with a well-struck shot from the edge of the area by Tanya Rich.

Back came Town with both Leanne Entwhistle and Robshaw going close, but it was Leeds who netted again through Rich after Town keeper Sarah Pollard had pulled off a good double save.

The second half was a quieter affair with Leeds adding to their tally only 15 minutes from the end when Shelley Donahoe rose unchallenged to head home from a corner.

Andrea Haigh grabbed a late consolation for Town in the 82nd minute as they battled to the end.

The open age Reserve side had an easy win over bottom club Hebden Royd, scoring nine goals without reply.

Town's scorers were Natalie Aspinal (2), Sandra Copeland (3), Dawn Kellett (2), Claire Gibson and Kate Mallin.

The club's Under 16s were denied a good result by a late score for Doncaster Parklands, who won 4-3.

Town's girls were 3-0 down after 30 minutes, but hit back with two goals from Raegan Cartledge, set up by Kate Mallin, and a third through Jess Williamson.

The Under 14s were well beaten 11-0 by Doncaster Belles.
