LEE PEACOCK isn’t pulling any punches as he attempts to rectify Swindon Town’s dismal home record.

Town head to the County Ground tomorrow aiming to become the fifth team in a row to topple Maurice Malpas’s men in Wiltshire.

Queens Park Rangers, in the Carling Cup, Colchester United, Leeds United and Millwall have all got the better of the Robins.

And the much-travelled Peacock, who grabbed the winner when Swindon won 2-1 at Hereford United in the second round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday, has had enough.

“We have to be so much stronger,” said the 31-year-old, who has been a consistent scorer in a career which has also taken in Carlisle United, Mansfield Town, Manchester City, Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday.

“People have got to put their bodies on the line – that’s the only thing that lets us down at times.

“The ball is bouncing about and at times you don't see anyone really dying to take it. As soon as the ball is loose I just want to win it, just to get everything in the way.

“That’s what it takes to get through the pressure at times, to be horrible and nasty. At times we are a little too soft. We can be and we have to be a lot tougher.”

Traditionally a striker, the 31-year-old Scotsman has been playing in midfield of late.

He has teamed up with compatriot Craig Easton and summer signings Michael Timlin and Frenchman Lilian Nalis, recruited from Fulham and Plymouth Argyle respectively.

Anthony McNamee and former Sheffield Wednesday man JP McGovern provide options for Malpas, the former Dundee United and Scotland star who started his managerial career at Motherwell.

But up front, Simon Cox and Billy Paynter seem sure to keep the shirts.

Ex-Reading player Cox has cracked 10 goals already this season, including a hat trick in 18th-placed Swindon’s last League I game, a 3-3 draw at Hartlepool, while former Hull and Southend man Paynter has weighed in with three.

Skipper and central defender Hansey Aljofree is on the road to recovery after a bout of illness and pushing for a recall to a back four which has recently featured ex-Town loan man Jerel Ifil and teenager Sean Morrison in the middle, Swansea City old boy Kevin Amankwaah at right-back and Jack Smith at left-back.

Czech goalkeeper Peter Brezovan reclaimed the place he lost to Phil Smith earlier in the season for Tuesday night’s JPT tie, which Malpas believes has provided a real shot in the arm ahead of the meeting with Town.

“It was a cup-tie in terms of the competition we’re playing in, but we were looking to win the game for confidence, and the players are buzzing,” said Malpas.

Tomorrow’s match will be refereed by Northamptonshire’s Dean Whitestone.

His last Town game was the 2-0 Galpharm victory over Luton Town a year ago.

Town’s last trip to the County Ground in March resulted in a 3-2 defeat.

In an eventful game, Swindon went three up through Paynter and Easton (2) but were left hanging on after Phil Jevons netted two penalties and Paynter and Peacock were both red carded.
