DENIS LAW joined the Town staff straight from school in Aberdeen.

And on December 24, 1956, aged 16 years and 10 months, he became the youngest player ever to turn out with Town's first team making his debut against Notts County at Meadow Lane.

A day after his 17th birthday he signed professional forms and even at that time there had been rumours that other clubs were keen to get the youngster's signature.

In April 1958, he was among 40 players from whom Scotland were to pick their final 22 for the World Cup, but an ankle injury ruled him out of the trials.

There was a scare in the 1958 close season when Law delayed re-signing for Town but he eventually did and went on to earn his first international cap.

He also became the youngest player to turn out for Scotland and scored on his debut in the 3-0 win against Wales on October 18. From then on his place in the Scotland side was assured.

Only frequent injuries caused him to miss other internationals against England and West Germany in 1959.

He played for the Scottish FA v Scottish League and twice played for the Scottish Under 23s as captain on March 2, 1960, seven days after his 20th birthday.

Law made 81 first-team appearances for Town, scoring 16 League goals and another three in the FA Cup from 10 ties.
