IAN MILLER saw Huddersfield Town reach the fourth round of the FA Cup for only the 12th time in 40 years and smiled: “We got there as a team.”

Town’s coach continued: “There were some good individual performances but the key thing was the collective effort.

“We demanded a response after losing so badly (6-1) at Leicester and we got it.”

Jermaine Beckford’s early goal clinched the win against Championship rivals Charlton.

The home team were reduced to 10 men by the 57th-minute sending off of centre-back Dorian Dervite for a professional foul.

“They went a bit gung-ho late on and we made a few bad decisions, but we defended manfully – and that wasn’t just the back four, because all over the pitch we made it hard for them,” added Miller.

“There was a determination among the players to put right the wrongs of New Year’s Day.

“There are ways to lose matches and we went out with a whimper against Leicester, it was unacceptable.”

Miller, along with Town boss Simon Grayson, worked with Beckford at Leeds and said: “The goal epitomised the type of player he is.

“Jermaine is a bit like Jordan Rhodes in that his link-up play is sometimes a little bit wayward, but his movement is fantastic.

“We haven’t provided him with the service over the last couple of weeks but I thought we did that in this game.

“There was lots of good movement in attack and I thought that Jermaine and James Vaughan did very well.”

Disappointed Charlton boss Chris Powell said: “To say I’m frustrated is the understatement of the year.

“I’m not enamoured with what happened. I know we went down to 10 men, but we went out with a whimper.

“It was a poor goal for us to concede and it gave us a mountain to climb.

“I’m not at all happy with the way it panned out.”
