CHELTENHAM manager John Ward has some big decisions to make ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Town.

He has two defenders, Gavin Caines and Michael Wylde, and a pair of strikers, Steven Gillespie and Damian Spencer, pushing for starting slots.

Neither Caines (knee) nor Wylde (broken jaw) have figured so far this season, but are back to full fitness now.

Spencer, who had knee surgery in April, has made two appearances as a substitute and scored for the Reserves in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Bournemouth.

Gillespie also had to make do with a bench place in Cheltenham’s most recent match, the 1-0 defeat at Carlisle a fortnight ago, because Ward used just one striker – Paul Connor.

Jennison Myrie-Williams and Ashley Vincent dropped back into midfield.

“I was deeply disappointed and I made it plainly obvious to the manager and the players,” said Gillespie of his omission.

“Nobody should be happy at not playing.”

Derbyshire referee Rob Shoebridge takes charge of a Town match for the first time tomorrow.
