MELTHAM booked their place in the final of the Barlow Cup with a 3-1 semi-final victory over local rivals Honley.

They will now face Heywood Irish Centre, also 3-1 semi-final winners over Hepworth, at the Galpharm Stadium on April 15.

It was always going to be an interesting encounter – a local derby with several players having connections to both clubs.

After 11 minutes Meltham were awarded a free kick just outside the box after Flint, was brought down by Honley’s Walker.

Tom Royle hit the free kick low to the left of the wall and beating the Honley keeper.

Just before half time Ellis-Pownall received the ball in the Honley penalty area and his shot found the net.

Meltham looked to be in control, but the second half was a tight affair and chances were few and far between.

However, the tide turned on 72 minutes when Honley were awarded a free kick and the shot was misjudged by the Meltham keeper and the goal gave Honley renewed hope.

Meltham responded with a couple of good chances, but it wasn’t until the last minute that they ensured they would be in the final when Tindall was put clear, and this time the opportunity was taken as he beat the keeper.
