TWO top officials were among a 300-strong crowd who watched Town's Academy lose 2-1 to Manchester United at Emley on Saturday.
Former Town manager Mick Buxton, who is now the FA's Academy monitor in this region, and Harry Wilson, who fills a similar role for the Football League, ran the rule over Gerry Murphy's matchday set-up.
All looked to be going well for coach John Dungworth's Under 19 side - featuring only three third-year scholars - when Matthew Young fired them ahead after 51 minutes at a pristine-looking Welfare Ground.
That seemed to inspire United, however, and Eddie Johnson headed them level only three minutes later.
United's win was sealed by Sylan Blake on 68 minutes, with a lovely side-foot finish after a flowing move.
Town, who have sealed a new matchday sponsorship deal with I.T.S. Turbos of Drighlington, just couldn't force an equaliser.
Among the crowd was goalkeeper Andy Jeffrey, who was on the bench 16 times for Town last season before being released from his non-contract terms during the club's financial crisis.
He is currently back at college and without a club.
Town Under 19s host Derby County in the next Academy game on Saturday.
