FISH and chips, steak pie or a curry? I like the odd takeaway as much as the next man.

But as I said after the Arsenal game, and as I’ll repeat now, winning promotion is unfortunately not like ordering food.

The fantastic season-ticket sales, which was one of several reasons I wanted to take this job on, means that expectation levels are high.

That’s a situation I like to think I thrive on, and hopefully the other members of my staff will as well.

Unfortunately there are no certainties in football, but what I will guarantee is that everyone will work as hard as they can to take Huddersfield Town back up to a level they should be at – the Championship at the least.

If anyone doesn’t want to give 100%, they’ll be off down the road!

There’s no time for standing still, and I’ll be pushing people to improve all the while.

In terms of the squad, I’m pleased with the lads I’ve brought in so far, but I’ll always be looking to improve still further.

Unfortunately the transfer windows limit the time in which I can do that, which is a shame, but they’re the rules so I’ll work to them.

Any incomers have to be better than the players already here, and I want to create a situation where we have competition for places throughout and can play three or four different systems depending on who we’re up against and what personnel I have available.

Fitness is crucial, and I won’t accept any slacking in that department, although having said that, I’ve been very pleased with the application shown during pre-season.

The players get good back-up and advice, and they’ve been diligent in doing what we’ve asked, both on the training ground and when they’re away from it.

It’s also important that we avoid injuries and suspensions as much as possible, and in terms of the former, we’ve come through the build-up without too many problems.

Young Danny Broadbent, who has damaged ankle ligaments, is the only player not available for selection against Stockport tomorrow.

Of course that gives me a dilemma, but it’s a good one, and there will be some happy lads and some disappointed ones when I announce my team selection.

It’s up to those 11 to go out, show desire and will to win, play with a bit of enjoyment – and keep their places in the team.
