TOWN are to extend the McAlpine trial of Akpo Sodje.

While Jackson is releasing former Sheffield Wednesday utility man Steve Haslam, he wants to take another look at 22-year-old striker Sodje.

Registered with Dr Martens League Erith and Belvedere FC, Sodje has netted two goals on trial and will figure again in Tuesday's friendly at Guiseley (7.30).

Brother of Town's team captain Efe, the younger Sodje is not included against Macclesfield at Moss Rose tomorrow (1.00), when Jackson is also without midfielder Lee Fowler (knee) and Pawel Abbott (hamstring).

"Akpo is still pretty raw, but he has done well on the training ground and, in the two matches he has started against Ossett Town and Farsley, he has been on the scoresheet," said Jackson.

"He is strong and quick and I think it is well worth extending his loan to take a further loan."

A third Sodje, Sam, has signed for League I rivals Brentford from Margate.

Meanwhile, on Haslam, Jackson added: "Steve came highly recommended and I remember him earlier in his career as a very good player.

"He has enjoyed it at the club, but we won't be offering a permanent deal."

Town's ticket office is closed tomorrow (Saturday).
