A GROUP of Huddersfield Town fans have re-launched the campaign to have the Galpharm Stadium's South Stand designated a home area.

And this time they're determined to make their campaign a success.

The last time that there was a serious campaign to have that part of the ground designated a home area was in the 2001/02 season, when Town, then managed by Lou Macari, were pushing for promotion.

However, with the financial crisis that followed that season, many fans felt the board should be allowed to concentrate their efforts on saving the club, so the campaign was dropped.

Now it has been re-launched, with fans anxious to see home fans rather than away supporters behind the goal.

Campaign spokesman Darren Marsden said it was time the campaign was re-launched.

He said there was no reason why Town fans could not be occupying the South Stand in time for Town to be celebrating their centenary season in 2008.

He added: "Chairman Ken Davy has stated that it is his ambition to see Town as one of the top 30 teams in the country in time for our centenary.

"Wouldn't it be great if we could have the South Stand full of Town fans cheering the team on to reaching that goal?"

Darren feels most Town fans support the campaign. A poll taken on the internet discussion forum Down AtTheMac in May of this year indicated 60% favoured the move.

Darren said: "There is an encouraging level of support, even before we started the campaign properly.

"At the height of the campaign in 2002, the figure was nearly 80% in favour, so we are confident this level of support can be attained again."

A website http://www.south stand4townfans.co.uk is being created and an online petition will be available for people to indicate their support.

Darren added: "We are in this for the long haul. If it takes two or three seasons to achieve our goal, so be it. But we will not be deterred.

"We would like constructive dialogue with all parties who could help to bring this about as soon as possible."

The club has indicated that there are several safety reasons why it would be impractical to put away fans in any other section of the ground.
