TOWN players Michael Collins and James Berrett were today hoping for a chance to take on Intercontinental Cup favourites Nigeria in Kuala Lumpur.

The pair are with the Republic of Ireland Under 21 squad who are competing in the eight-nation tournament, which is actually for Under 23s, in Malaysia.

Collins, winning his third Under 21 cap, scored twice as Don Givens’ Irish side beat the host nation 3-1 on Thursday.

Like Collins, Berrett, who recently signed a new two-year Town contract, also figured for the full 90 minutes on his Under 21 debut.

After facing the Africans today, the Republic complete their group games against Iraq on Monday. Nigeria are favouries after Argentina withdrew.

Meanwhile, Ex-Town striker Delroy Facey aims to fire Wycombe into the League II play-off final tonight.

Paul Lambert’s side head for Stockport (6.00) with the tie level at 1-1, Facey having netted in the first leg..

l Suggestions the Galpharm will stage Manchester City’s UEFA Cup first qualifying round match have been downplayed by stadium managing director Ralph Rimmer.

“The last time we heard from City they had an alternative venue,” he said.

“But if that’s gone pear-shaped we’d be only too happy to talk to them about playing here in Huddersfield.”
