YOUNG Town striker Dave Heagney helped the Republic of Ireland Under 16s to a 3-0 win over Northern Ireland in the final of the Ballymena Tournament.
Heagney came on as a 72nd-minute substitute.
By that stage, Vinnie Butler's team were three to the good through Everton duo Gerard Kinsella (41 minutes) and Jay Wallace (49) and Shelbourne's Karl Sheppard (64).
In the group stages of the tournament, the Republic beat the Czech Republic and the USA while drawing with Scotland.
"This success was the culmination of a season long of hard work," said Butler. "We have really enjoyed the week of football at Ballymena and the performance of the team will boost their confidence as they look towards preparing for next season's UEFA Under 17 qualifying series under manager Sean McCaffrey."
The first phase will be staged in the Republic in September when Ukraine, Denmark and Slovenia will compete with the Irish for the top two qualifying places on offer for the elite qualifying phase of the competition.
