Huddersfield Town fans feel David Wagner is on the right lines but would like to see a couple of quality additions to the squad in January.

A striker and central defender appear to be top of the list for most who watched Saturday’s 2-0 home defeat by promotion-chasing Middlesbrough, which dropped Town into the bottom three.

There’s plenty of optimism, however, that if Town continue to perform like they did against Boro – when they had 75% possession – they will win enough games to climb out of trouble.

It was reflected on both www.examiner.co.uk and on the Examiner’s Huddersfield Town Facebook page.

Supporter SPH, from Almondbury, said: “Unlucky!

“If we only had a clinical finisher we would have won the game at a canter. That is the best I have seen Town play for years.

“The new manager is certainly making a positive impression.

“We lack a cutting edge, but if we get one there is no holding us back. Middlesborough are a top team yet we made them look like amateurs at times.

“The first win for Wagner is just around the corner.”

Ben, based at Crosland Moor, said: “Wonderful. The game flashed by and Town played fast, thoughtful football.

Individual players seemed to have improved 5%. But, oh for someone to put the ball in the net!

Mirfield-based Craig was similarly positive despite Town going down to goals from Adam Clayton and Emilio Nsue.

“Aside of the result, Town played really well – passing football, no hoofing the ball.

“Players were closing down, playing for each other and showing pride in the shirt that the fans in the ground responded to with cheers for every full-bodied challenge the players made.

“Keep playing that every week and the results will come. Up the Town!”

Roger, from Kirkburton, added: “The most entertaining performance this season, committed play and a harsh scoreline.

“Feeling confident about the rest of the season once a striker and another central defender can be drafted in. Wagner sounds and looks like the real deal.”

Kev, from Lindley, agreed: “What a contrast to the drab, slow and sideways approach of Powell.

“Need a cutting edge up front to complete this team and style. Only negative was Mark Hudson, when he got the ball the play was slowed down too much.

“Well done Mr Wagner, German efficiency and organisation!”

Fan Tony, of Salendine Nook, concurs on the positions to be strengthened.

“Town are crying out for a striker and a central defender,” he messaged.

“Wagner is right, the result was ridiculous considering the amount of possession we had.”

Andy, who travelled from Wakefield, summed it up.

“Lots of positives to take from the game, including the slick passing.

“Exciting times ahead, just need to score goals to make it the full package – onwards and upwards.”

Glenn, from Leigh, and TJ of Horbury believe Town need to sign a striker in the transfer window, while Ian of Newark felt Town’s crossing let them down while they also need to be sharper in front of goal.

Pudsey-based Andrew reckons Town need to pick up 10 points by Christmas to revive hopes, while H, from Golcar concluded: “If we can play like we did on Saturday and find the back of the net, you can forget about being relegated this season.”

Sarah Jones added:The improvement is unbelievable.

“Get that striker in and we are away.

“Quality football has been brought back into Town and I’m excited for the first time in a long time!”
