Walsall want Huddersfield Town striker Jordy Hiwula.
The 21-year-old former Manchester City player scored three goals in 16 games on loan to the League I club in the season just finished.
Town have said they will listen to offers for a player who cost them £150,000 a year ago but has made just one appearance as a substitute.
And boss Whitney, a former Town player, said: “I would really like to do something.
“But he is one who might be looking to play in the Championship. We will see what happens.”
