Huddersfield Town exited the Capital One Cup with a 2-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest as an own-goal from James Vaughan and Henri Lansbury's late strike saw the Championship leaders progress to the third round.

The Terriers had impressed in the opening stages and hit the post through Jonathan Stead, but the visitors were handed the lead in bizarre circumstances when Vaughan made a mess of clearing a corner and they never looked back.

Lansbury added a second in the closing stages as he fired home through a crowd past Joe Murphy to seal Forest's place in the hat for round three.

For Town, their focus will turn back to league matters and a trip to Watford this weekend where they will be determined to pick up points ahead of the upcoming international break.
