TOWN kicked off the Ibiza tournament with a gruelling training session today and will tonight watch their prospective final opponents in action in San Antonio (8.00 BST).

Manager Peter Jackson will take his 19-man squad to the opening fixture between QPR and the Ibiza XI knowing his own side are well prepared for their semi-final against Coventry City tomorrow.

It is the first pre-season fixture for a Town side who finished just a point short of the League I play-offs last term and who are expected to give debut run-outs to signings Gary Taylor-Fletcher, Martin McIntosh and Mark Hudson.

Jackson's squad trained in predicted 80-degree temperatures today after a cloudy arrival on Jet2.Com's flight LS197 from Leeds/Bradford last night, when a handful of supporters enjoyed having their picture taken with the squad.

Striker Andy Booth is the only lingering fitness concern for the manager because of a swollen ankle suffered in a practice match on Saturday, but Jackson - who was today attending a press conference with fellow Copa De Ibiza managers Ian Holloway and Micky Adams - is confident his most experienced striker will be fit to face Coventry.

"The first impressions of the place and the tournament are extremely favourable, our hotel is excellent and the training facilities are at the main stadium, which is only five minutes down the road," said Jackson today.

"The amount of work to be done later today depended on on how our early training session went, but we will all be at the match tonight."

Jackson is hoping to play the winners in Thursday's final but, if Town lose to the Sky Blues, they will face tonight's losers in Wednesday's third-place play-off match.

The players left at home - Junior Mendes, John McCombe, Lee Fowler, Matthew Young and Aaron Hardy - were training with Reserve coach John Dungworth today.

Adnan Ahmed is resting because of tendinitis on a knee.
