Huddersfield Town travel to Wigan Athletic this weekend searching for a first win in nine on their travels after their latest away-day woes at Middlesbrough last weekend.

A second-half brace from Lee Tomlin consigned Town to a eighth away defeat so far this season and a sixth under manager Chris Powell, despite an improved performance on the road from the Terriers.

Town's worrying form on the road has seen them pick up just nine points all season, but Powell has bolstered his ranks this week with the loan addition of defender David Edgar from Birmingham City for the rest of the season.

But what are the key questions for Town ahead of a weekend trip across the Pennines?

Here are just some things to think about as Powell's men look to finally secure that elusive away victory.

Will Chris Powell get creative with his depleted strikeforce?

With signings up front not appearing imminent and James Vaughan sidelined with the facial injury he picked up in the 2-0 defeat at Boro, Nahki Wells will presumably plough a rather lonely furrow in attack this weekend.

Martin Paterson remains a member of the squad but it is unclear for how much longer, with MLS outfit Orlando City ready to pounce for a striker who is out of contract in the summer.

And so Powell will have to be experimental unless he can draft someone in before tomorrow's deadline for registering players for the weekend, with precious few clear-cut options staring him in the face.

It provides an opportunity to revert to the 4-3-3 or 4-5-1 which served him so well during the seven-game unbeaten run, although former loan star the presence of a targetman in Grant Holt did enable that system to operate as well as it did.

Quite how the manager will feel about deploying Wells as a lone forward remains to be seen, but his hand may be forced unless he feels Joe Lolley can do a job there or if Sean Scannell or Harry Bunn are fielded central with Lolley occupying one of the wide berths.

Can Town take the game to a struggling side?

While the Terriers have been awful away from home, their weekend hosts' form on their own patch has been, at best, patchy having only taken 13 points from a possible 39 at the DW Stadium.

Town may have secured even less points (9) than that away - it's worth noting Malky Mackay's side have only taken eight points elsewhere, however - but surely this is an opportunity for them to banish some bad memories.

A win here would lift Town some 13 points ahead of second-bottom Wigan and 11 clear of the drop zone with Millwall not in action until Tuesday night, so there is no better incentive for Powell to really force the issue with his team selection and strategy here.

Wigan approach this match with just a solitary win from their last 13 across all competitions and, while the manager will not send his side out completely all guns blazing, surely the shackles must be released this weekend.

With Mackay struggling to garner any sort of response to his side's plight, persistent rumours over their prized assets Shaun Maloney and Callum McManaman and against a team who have only scored more than once on five occasions this term, the opportunity is there for Town - it has to be seized.

Will there be a Terriers debut?

It will be interesting to see whether or not new loan signing Edgar does get a first runout at the DW Stadium, where he has already been on the end of a 4-0 humbling this season with Birmingham.

You would imagine that, with Lee Peltier closing in on a move to Cardiff City, the 27-year-old will come into the matchday squad, but will there be room for him in the starting XI?

Powell has already revealed he is hoping to field him in a central role, either at the back or at the base of midfield, and his chances of playing in the latter role have been increased by fears Jonathan Hogg could miss the trip to face the Latics with a thigh injury.

With attacking personnel in such short supply, it all points to a first opportunity for Edgar to prove Birmingham City boss Gary Rowett wrong for allowing him to join a Championship rival.

It would appear unlikely that he will line up in central defence given Joel Lynch's return and the fact playing three would increase the need to field as many forwards as possible, but the Canadian international can prove his versatility by filling in for someone as influential as Hogg.
