ANDY HOLDSWORTH believes perspiration rather than pound notes will provide the perfect Christmas present for Town manager Peter Jackson.

The right-back reckons the Galpharm squad are geared up to register a first win in eight League I games away to Chesterfield tomorrow.

Holdsworth admits his own confidence has dipped during the dismal run, but says last Saturday's brighter display against Northampton was a timely tonic.

"I felt I played better personally and the team as a whole did too," said the 22-year-old Academy product.

"We had to be satisfied with a 1-1 draw, but we created enough chances to have won by four or five goals, and if we continue to do that, we will win a game handsomely.

"Right now, we'll take any win we can, and we're all prepared to put in some solid hard work tomorrow.

"We've been doing that on the training ground, and I'm feeling really fit as a result.

"A lot of the other lads are saying the same thing, and I believe the good shape we are in will pay off over Christmas, when the games come thick and fast."

With the January transfer window fast approaching, Holdsworth is said to be interesting Middlesbrough.

But the Pontefract-based player is focusing on Town's festive schedule of four matches in 10 days.

"People having been criticising both the chairman (Ken Davy) and the manager, and saying they should go," added Holdsworth.

"The players certainly don't want that, and we're determined to repay the faith both have shown in us over the last three and a half years by getting the season back on track.

"Twelve points are available in a short space of time, and we aim to get as many of them as we can.

"Getting some wins at this stage of the season will put a whole new complexion on things.

"We haven't hit top form this season by any stretch of the imagination, and we know we can do much better.

"The first target is to keep up the tempo we played at against Northampton.

"We have to stop Chesterfield settling and dictate how the game is to be played."
