PETER CLARKE insists Huddersfield Town can upset the odds by winning at Watford today.

Simon Grayson’s 17th-placed side are 4/1 with some bookies to pick up a first Championship victory in 12 games at Vicarage Road.

But defiant captain Clarke insists Town’s slump in form is over and believes sixth-placed Watford’s Championship promotion push can be slowed.

“The level of our performances is back to near where we think it should be,” said the centre-back.

“Along the way we’ve been a bit unlucky. But I think it’s only a matter of time before that win finally comes.”

It took a last-gasp goal to seal the 1-1 home draw with Birmingham and Clarke continued: “The timing of the goal was good in terms of ending the game on a positive.

“Their keeper made three or four great saves, so I think a point is the least we deserved. But we’d have still liked more from the game and could well have had more.”

Clarke also hailed the debut display of on-loan Leicester midfielder Neil Danns, saying: “He started on the right, but can play anywhere across the middle.

“He’s experienced and good on the ball and will make a big contribution to this club.”

Clarke is eyeing a third successive start after two games as an unused substitute and claimed: “Being left out was nothing to do with my level of performance.

“The ProZone stats will back that up, and the manager was looking at a different pairing (Anthony Gerrard and Joel Lynch).

“From a personal point of view, I’m obviously glad to be back. We kept a clean sheet at Charlton in the FA Cup and we aim to do the same at Watford.”

With Vicarage Road having undersoil heating, Watford are hopeful of beating the big freeze.
