NEW Town captain Jon Worthington today promised complete commitment towards another promotion drive.

The 21-year-old was named team skipper just minutes before yesterday's hard-fought 1-1 draw against Brentford, which attracted 10,810 to the Galpharm Stadium.

Pawel Abbott equalised for Town with his 12th goal of the season after Sami Sodje had given the tough-nut Bees a second-half lead.

A win would have carried Peter Jackson's side back into the play-off placings but, despite missing out and having to settle for ninth in the table, Worthington believes Town are focused on more success.

"Expectations here are high and rightly so after what we've achieved already and some of the performances we've turned in," he said.

"All the players are pushing for more success and I would like nothing more than to lead us to that success.

"It's a great honour to be captain when I'm only young and I have to admit I was a bit shocked when the gaffer announced it just before the game.

"Having played for Town since I was nine or 10, I'm obviously delighted and, after being voted Player of the Year by the fans last season, in my first full year, this is just another huge feather in my cap. I'm very proud."

Worthington succeeds Efe Sodje as team skipper and added: "It has given me a huge boost because it shows the management have got faith in me to do the job.

"It's all been a whirlwind for me, but the lads are going well and we showed a hell of a lot of character and commitment to get back in what was a very hard and demanding game against Brentford yesterday."
