TOWN'S League I rivals Yeovil have made Russell Slade manager.

Former boss Steve Thompson, who piloted the West Country club to a crucial 2-1 win at Town in March as they avoided relegation, has agreed to stay on at Huish Park as coach.

Slade joins Yeovil after leaving Grimsby, where he failed to agree a new deal, last week.

He has signed a three-year contract at Huish Park.

"The club has made great strides in the last three or four years and has got itself in a situation where it needs to take stock," said Slade, who was previously manager at Scarborough and also had spells at Notts County and Sheffield United.

"One or two players have gone but some important characters are still here. We need to build a nice balance to take us forward but the priority is to have a certain degree of stability.

"We need to bring in some new faces, we're working hard on that and I'll be talking to one or two soon."

Thompson's No2 Kevin Hodges is leaving the club.
