Mark Robins handed a 16th Town appearance to Duane Holmes as he brought his fellow teenager Philip Billing into the squad for the Bolton clash.

Holmes, 19, was the only substitute used in the 1-0 defeat.

He replaced Oscar Gobern after 75 minutes, and Robins said: “Duane provided some impetus.”

The boss indicated pre-match that he is keen to run the rule over some of the club’s promising youngsters if circumstances allow.

Danish midfielder Billing, 17, was rewarded for a string of bright displays for the junior side, who have won their Professional Development League section and reached the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup.

Signed from Esjberg last season and stretching the tape to 6ft 4in, he has a contract through to 2017 with the option of a further year in the club’s favour.

Billing has made four substitute appearances for the Under 21s, who have also won their PDL section title and face Derby at Pride Park on Wednesday evening (7.00).

Town, who host Ipswich in the Championship tomorrow, visit Derby on Saturday.

The Under 18s fought back from two down to claim a 2-2 draw at Charlton on Saturday.

Midfielder Ben Holmes and Under 16 winger Regan Booty got the goals to reflect a spirited show.
