HUDDERSFIELD Town chief executive Nigel Clibbens says there is 'no substance' in rumours linking the club with bids for Kevin Phillips and Craig Mackail-Smith.

Birmingham City striker Phillips and Peterborough United forward Mackail-Smith have both been mooted as targets for Terriers boss Lee Clark.

However, Clibbens believes the Terriers are being used to stimulate the market and has scotched speculation that Phillips or Mackail-Smith could be on their way to the Galpharm Stadium.

"Suggesting we would pay £1m for a player makes a good headline, but in reality, it's nonsense.

"There is no substance to the speculation over either Kevin Phillips, whose club have just been promoted to the Premier League, or Craig McKail-Smith.
