Huddersfield Town are set to step up their bid to bring Lee Peltier back to the club after the defender announced he had left Leeds.
It means the 27-year-old, who was contracted at Elland Road until 2015, can move on a free transfer.
Nottingham Forest, where Peltier spent time on loan last season, are also believed to be interested.
The Liverpool product played 103 times for Town between 2009-11.
Signed from Yeovil, he was sold to Leicester in a £1m deal.
The move represented a step up to Championship level for the player a year before Town won promotion from League I.
Town manager Mark Robins is on the look-out for defensive recruits after the departures of skipper Peter Clarke and full-back Calum Woods.

Peltier, who joined Leeds in 2012, is primarily a right-back, but has also played in central defence.
He announced on Twitter: “I have now officially left Leeds United Football Club, just want to thank all the people at the club who have helped and supported me.
“Now time for me to me on to the next chapter of my career and look forward to the future.”
Peltier, who spent time on loan at Hull early in his career, played four times for Liverpool and has made 320 career appearances.
If he were to return, Peltier would join a select group of players to have had two separate spells with Town.
They include Andy Booth, Mally Brown, Danny Cadamarteri, Rob Edwards, Roy Ellam, Chris Lucketti and Jon Stead.
