SALFORD City football club have appointed Ashley Berry as their new manager with chairman Darren Quick hailing him ‘the right man for the job’.

Huddersfield-based Berry, aged 45, has a UEFA B licence and he has agreed to be Gary Fellows’ successor at Salford on the understanding that he can continue to work for Huddersfield Town’s Academy on a part-time basis, according to the Salford Advertiser .

Berry has previous UniBond League experience with Bridlington Town and Woodley Sports and he had a positive influence on the fortunes of both clubs in a short period of time.

He will bring with him a player/assistant manager in 35-year-old Greg Challinor, who is a former Preston and Oldham professional player with a wealth of non-league experience.

And Berry has already made his first signing in 43-year-old midfielder Neil Redfearn, who played for Charlton, Barnsley and Bradford in the Premiership and has more than 1,000 first class games under his belt.
