Peter Clarke says Huddersfield Town will use the international break to make sure they are ready for the resumption of Championship action at home to Doncaster a week on Saturday.

Mark Robins’ men fell to 12th in the table after five matches as they went down 2-1 at Barnsley – their first loss since the opening-day setback at Nottingham Forest.

Two down at the break, James Vaughan sparked hopes of a fightback with his eighth goal of the season, but the home side held on for their first league victory in front of a 13,593 crowd which included 3,888 Town fans.

While midfielder Ollie Norwood and frontman Martin Paterson today join up with Northern Ireland for World Cup qualifiers against Portugal and Luxembourg, Clarke and the rest of Robins’ squad will mix training at Canalside with rest and recovery.

“We’d like to have gone into the international break with a positive result, but there’s certainly no panic,” said the captain.

“There’s a long way to go and a lot of work to be done, but we’ve laid a platform and we have the chance to accumulate a good number of points in September.

“The management will have the next fortnight well planned out.”
