Golcar, Broad Oak and Elland all scored vital victories to enhance their survival chances at the bottom of the Drakes League Premiership.

At Riley Lane, Steve Whitwam’s side held off a strong challenge from Kirkburton to take the six points.

Golcar posted 272-7 thanks to 63 from Jake Lockwood, 48 from Whitwam and 39 from Tim Welsford, while Iqbal Khan claimed three for 44 for the home side.

Skipper Andy Smith led the reply with 88 , Jonny Butterfield had 49, Nick Sharp 34 not out and Craig Fletcher 33, but they were held just short on 270-6 as Welsford returned four for 75 to help lift his side out of the relegation placings.

Broad Oak scored an excellent win at fourth-placed Honley after Kiwi Henry Cooper with 96 and skipper Lee Baxter with an unbeaten 79 helped them pile up 261-4, despite a three-for from Sam Denton.

Tim Sykes anchored the reply with 44, Aussie Aaron Crispe hit 43 and Danny Howard pitched in with a half century, but Honley were sent back for 212.

Elland grabbed a rain-rule six points at in-form Moorlands after an excellent all-round performance from young Siraj Sajid.

The Joe Lumb player first took four for 20 and, with the help of three for 35 from Alistair Finn, reduced Moorlands to 179 all out, Michael Padgett hitting 53.

Sajid was then 56 not out and Ashton Blakey 53 not out as Elland reached 171-3, which was enough for the weather win.

While bottom club Skelmanthorpe lost to leaders Scholes, Slaithwaite dropped back into the bottom two and Shelley also lost to drop below Elland, Broad Oak and Golcar.

Slaithwaite were dismissed for just 110 at second-placed Hoylandswaine as Javed Iqbal took five for 29 and Yasir Abbas three form 19. Alex Walker with 34 not out was the best of the visiting batsmen.

Swaine powered to a six-wicket win with Gharib Nawaz 36 and SP Singh 34.

Nasir Jamal took five for 41 as Shelley were bowled out for 126 at Shepley.

The home side got home by only two wickets, however, as Ibrar Younas too three for 39 and Tom Haytack three for 20, Shepley finishing on 127-8.

Skelmanthorpe bowled well led by a six for 46 haul from Amjid Khan and dismissed Scholes for 189, in which Pete Drysdale scored a patient 53 at the top of the order.

Skelmanthorpe made a solid start in reply, but opener Tom Brook took three for 41 before the home middle-order collapsed against the off-spin of Jono Boult, who took four for 32 in 11.1 overs.

In the final top-flight match, Barkisland got back to business with a rain-rule victory at home to Delph.

Alex Scholefield hit 82, Alex Kaye 56 and Jamie Summerscales 40 as the Woodfield men put up 274-7, Asim Khurshid taking three for 66.

That total was revised to 245 because of bad weather but Delph were all out for 229, despite Greg Buckley firing 87. Scholefield with four for 47 and skipper Darren Robinson with three for 39 did the damage.

In the Jedi Sports Championship, only two points continue to separate the top three as leaders Cawthorne, Clayton West and Armitage Bridge all won.

Bilal Khiljee hit a fine 101 for Holmfirth but it was still not enough to derail the leaders in pursuit of 192.

Liam Wiles with an unbeaten 90 guided the home side to victory with only two wickets down, Ben Simpson and Lewis Skelly adding 37 and 35 not out respectively.

Clayton West scored a five-wicket success at Linthwaite after dismissing the home side for 147 in which Asif Kayyum compiled 78.

Jacob Saunders picked up four for 36 for the visitors, who went to victory on 150-5 thanks to 69 from David Swan.

Daniel Moorhouse with a tremendous seven for 20 was the hero for Armitage Bridge as they proved too strong for Almondbury.

Bryn Jenkins led the way with 72 as the Bridge totalled 184, Mirza Mobeen taking four for 48. Mobeen then hit 41 in reply but Almondbury were sent back for 106 thanks to Moorhouse.

Cedar Court Conference leaders Rastrick won at Hall Bower, while Denby maintained their challenge with a five-wicket win against Upperthong. Thurstonland were impressive winners at Cartworth Moor.
