Heckmondwike Cycle Speedway club hosted a tough outing in the latest round of the Northern Fours competition.

Up against teams from Hull, Bury, Stockport and Astley & Tyldesley, the Heckmondwike quartet finished in joint fifth place.

Heckmondwike rode well despite only having three riders after youngster Tom Whitwam had to pull out due to illness after taking one point.

Darren Kent showed he still had the skill and knowledge of his home track after wining three out of his five races, Richard Wells raced well despite taking a tumble In his first race and Justin Naylor battled through injury and managed to finish all his five races.

However, the Heckmondwike juniors all raced well in their event, with 11-year-old Tom Whitwam taking maximum points and he is now in the overall lead in the Under 13s series.

In the Under 10s Bella Naylor scored well with 12 points and Declan Summersgill managed to match her score, while Ben Summersgill scored five and Harvey Wells eight.
