Holmfirth racers Joe Irving and James Lodge head to Oulton Park this weekend looking to build on an impressive start to the British Superbikes season.

Teenager Irving was an opening round winner in the Motul British Motorstar Championship at Brands Hatch’s Indy circuit, and Lodge followed suit with victory in the National Superstock 600 race.

The 17-year-old Irving got a fantastic start at Brands grabbing the advantage at the first corner, but he was caught and past on lap three by Ryan Saxelby.

However, the Redline Motorcycles KTM rider regained his composure, retook the lead and didn’t look back.

“It was a fantastic weekend and I continued in 2014 where I finished in 2013,” said Irving.

“I think I controlled the race well – bring on Oulton!”

For Lodge, riding the Moto-Breakers Kawasaki, it is a return to one of his best-loved tracks.

“Brands was a great result and a great start to the season,” said Lodge.

“It was especially good to win from ninth on the grid, and I’m now looking forward to Oulton Park at the weekend as it is one of my favourite events of the year.”

Racing alongside Lodge in the Superstock 600 is High Flatts racer James Pickford and the 22-year-old enjoyed an encouraging start to his British Superbikes career finishing in 22nd place on his JP Racing Kawasaki.

In the National Superstock 1000 Championship two local riders will be looking to improve on their showings down in Kent.

Jonathan Lodge, James’ older brother, had to settle for 22nd place on his DiesoLiFT Unipart Rail Racing team Kawasaki, while former superbikes racer Tom Tunstall made his return to riding after a season out with 26th place on the Doodson Motorsport Kawasaki.
