Honley celebrated an historic day by regaining the leadership of the West Riding County Amateur League First Division.

It was the first occasion in the progressive club’s history that four sides have been fielded at the same time, with two District League teams and a development XI also playing.

And for good measure, Honley also put out a newly-formed Sunday side.

The firsts were 1-0 winners at Westbrook YMCA and are three points above Huddersfield rivals Newsome, who didn’t play.

Lawnswood-based Westbrook might be bottom of the table but five of their defeats have been by a solitary goal.

Ben Lindley’s fine solo strike proved the difference this time.

Both sides were playing their seventh game in three weeks, and the pace of the game reflected a warm afternoon.

The key moment came after 25 minutes, when Lindley received the ball on the half turn two yards into the Westbrook half.

Using his pace, he outsprinted the home defence and slotted an angled shot across the keeper.

In the second period Westbrook pressed higher and were the more dangerous of the two teams.

But without much pace in their attacking line, they rarely troubled keeper Jordan Robinson.

Lepton Highlanders went second in the Premier Division with a 3-1 home win over Kirkburton.

Jonathon Bullivant (2) and James Keenan scored for Lepton, Richard Kettlewell for Burton.

Callum Meade’s double earned Golcar United a 2-0 victory at Salts and moved the Colne Valley side up to 10th.

The WRCAL’s hopes of progress in the FA Inter League Cup were ended at the first hurdle as they lost 4-2 to the Cheshire League in Knutsford.

After going behind to Ben Slater’s goal, the visitors levelled through Ely Hey (Halifax Irish), then went ahead with a penalty by Scott Eastwood (Ovenden WR).

But the Cheshire League levelled through Ebbie Rezayan, then strikes by George Burgess and David Owens settled the tie.
