Hoylandswaine made a winning start in defence of their allroundercricket.com T20 Trophy title – but they had to go to the last ball.

The Drakes League champions were guided home by skipper Richard Wilkinson and Max Joice in a thriller at Shepley.

The hosts put up 164-4 in their 20 overs thanks to 31 from Dan Wood, 76 from Aussie Christian Smith, 32 from captain Danny Glover and 22 not out from Oli Davidson, SP Singh taking two for 26 against his old club.

Swaine were indebted to 33 from Gharib Nawaz and 37 from Ryan Robinson in making progress, but it was the unbroken stand between Joice (43 not out) and Wilkinson (11 not out) which got them home with no room to spare.

At Scholes, Pete Drysdale followed his league century with another as depleted Moorlands – playing for the fourth successive day – were efficiently put to the sword.

Scholes hammered 278-5 with Drysdale hitting nine sixes and eight fours in his 100, backed up by 65 from Jono Boult (six fours and five sixes), 44 fro Tom Brook (four fours and three sixes) and 33 from Joe Carter. Chris Lloyd took two for 44.

Broad Oak were delighted with a fine home win against Kirkburton, chasing down 150-6 with the loss of just three wickets.

Asif Hussain (31), Jonny Butterfield (43) and Tom Burkinshaw with an unbeaten 20 were the best of the visiting batsmen as Kiwi Henry Cooper and Jevan Peacock took two wickets apiece for the Oak.

Alex Slack was the batting hero for the Oak with 63 opening the batting, and he was well backed up by Dom Finn with 43 not out as they got home in 18 overs.

Graeme Simpson hit 90 and Asim Khurshid 69 as Delph chased down Slaithwaite’s 213-4 with an over an a half to spare.

Simpson shared a stand of 121 with young Nathan Jones (19) before Khurshid got them near.
