Tyrone Nurse is dreaming of a West Yorkshire double at Leeds Arena on Saturday.

While host-city favourite Josh Warrington fights Italian Davide Dieli for the European featherweight crown, Huddersfield star Nurse takes on Derby’s Dave Ryan for the Commonwealth light-welterweight title.

Warrington has gone from Commonwealth champion to a European tilt, and Nurse, already the mandatory British title challenger at 10st, knows victory over Ryan could be the start of even bigger things.

The Commonwealth strap is prestigious in its own right, of course, and Nurse watched as a youngster as dad Chris Aston trained Huddersfield trio James Hare, Mark Hobson and Dale Robinson to that prize in their respective divisions.

The experienced Aston will be back in the corner on Saturday when his 24-year-old son seeks a 10th win since his sole career defeat to Adil Anwar in the Prizefighter tournament in 2012.

Nurse, who has 29 professional victories overall, has been sparring with Anwar to prepare for the showdown with Ryan, 31, who has 15 wins and eight defeats on his card.

The fighters he has beaten include WBA title challenger Paul McCloskey and the rugged John Hibbert.

While Ryan, nicknamed Rocky, is a former Midlands area champion, Nurse has held the Central area, English and British Masters titles.
