Huddersfield Dragons went on the rampage as they notched a 17-1 win over York University.

Despite the terrible weather at Lockwood Park and a delayed start, the Dragons ensured they stayed top of the Yorkshire Hockey League’s Premier Division by one point from Leeds thirds and Bradford – who both have a game in hand on the leaders.

However, goal difference will be on the Dragons side should matters be tight at the end of the season as their victory took their season’s tally to 81, giving them a positive goal difference of 58, while their nearest rivals Leeds’ tally is plus 22.

Leading the way against York was Marc Wyer who scored six and there were hat tricks for Rob Kelly, Jimmy Swinden and Dan Levett – they will look to extend their lead at home to Bradford on Saturday.

The Dragons’ seconds had their biggest clash of the season when they travelled to top of the table Tadcaster Magnets in Division Three.

Looking to close the gap on the leaders, the Dragons put up a real fight before going down 4-3, slipping to third in the table as Halifax seconds moved above them.

The visitors were 3-1 down but the Dragons fought back to make it 3-3, aided by another strong performance from top scorer Sam Hannam, but the home side snatched a late goal to take the points.

The Dragons women’s seconds endured mixed fortunes in their push for promotion in Yorkshire League Division II.

They produced a stunning display on Saturday to notch an 8-0 win at home to Wakefield fourths, but on Sunday they blew the chance to go top of the table when they were beaten 1-0 away by University of Leeds fourths.

The Dragons were particularly aggrieved when Ellie Bull had a goal wiped out when her reverse sweep into the net was disallowed with the umpire ruling the shot had come off the back of the stick.

They trail leaders Lindum seconds by a point but don’t have a game on Saturday, while the Lincolnshire side are at home to Canalside Terriers.
