Rochelle Morris is in the Great Britain & Ireland Curtis Cup team!

The 20-year-old golfer from Woodsome Hall has been selected in the eight-strong line-up to take on the USA at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club in Ireland from June 10-12.

It’s the women’s amateur equivalent of the Ryder Cup and Rochelle is the first Huddersfield player selected since Nikki Buxton, also from Woodsome Hall.

Rochelle will play alongside Maria Dunne (Skerries), Alice Hewson (Berkhamsted), Bronte Law (Bramhall), Meghan MacLaren (Wellingborough), Leona Maguire (Slieve Russell), Olivia Mehaffey (Royal County Down) and Charlotte Thomas (Moonah Links, Australia).

“It’s really exciting and wonderful to get in,” said Rochelle.

“I know all the players bar one – Leona Maguire from Ireland, who is studying out in the USA and is a fantastic player.”

Team captain Elaine Farquharson-Black said: “We have an extremely talented team which has considerable experience of playing amateur golf at the highest level.

“I am looking forward to meeting up with the team at The Castle Golf Club to prepare for the match.

“With some of the best players in the world on both sides, it is going to be a really exciting Curtis Cup.”

On Rochelle’s selection, she added: “Rochelle is knocking on the door of a big title after securing a number of second places.

“She was the runner-up in two national championships last year: the English women’s amateur at Hunstanton and the English women’s open strokeplay at St Annes Old Links.

“In addition she was runner-up in qualifying for the English women’s open matchplay at Trentham.

“This year she was second in The Leveret, the prestigious strokeplay event which is one of the season’s curtain raisers and reached the matchplay stages of the French Under 21 championship.”
