Huddersfield Town Ladies are champions of the Northern Women’s Premier League and have gained promotion to the FA Women’s Premier League North.

They confirmed both achievements with an emphatic 6-0 home win over Wakefield Ladies – their eighth straight league win.

Town started the game nervously and Wakefield had an excellent early chance when they wasted a shot wide of the target.

However, Town gradually started to control the game and Emily Heckler went close in the eighth minute and five minutes later and Laura Porritt shot over.

The breakthrough came in the 15th minute when Heckler pulled the ball back to Kate Mallin, who struck a powerful shot to put Town ahead and settle them down.

On 22 minutes Mallin played in Porritt who doubled Town’s lead from close range.

Wakefield, who travelled without any substitutes, were unlucky to lose a player to injury on the half hour mark and played out the remainder of the game with 10 players.

Porritt made it three in the 36th minute with another good finish and with a minute of the first half remaining Laura Windle crossed the ball into the area where player of the match Katie Nutter glanced the ball on to Heckler who finished in emphatic style.

The second half was a quieter affair with Town happy retain possession and Wakefield having to sit back and defend.

With an hour gone, Mallin play the ball across to Heckler who doubled her tally for the game and five minutes later Alice Linsell showed great skill to jink her way into the Wakefield are and slide the ball past the Wakefield keeper.

Further chances came, but Town were happy to have won the title having not lost a league game since late November.

The first team have two matches remaining with their next on Sunday, May 11, away to Cheadle Heath Nomads.

Town’s Under 12 side were 4-2 winners at Steel City Wanderers.

The team completed an excellent first season together and their fifth straight win.

Town had the better of the early stages, but it was Steel City who opened the scoring with a breakaway goal in the sixth minute.

Only a minute later and Alicia Marriott’s long throw was unfortunately headed over the home keeper by a Steel City defender and into the Wanderers net for an own goal to level the scores.

In the 10th minute Olivia Beaumont shot just wide of the goal and soon after Molly Ellis was introduced as substitute and she scored within two minutes of coming on when she prodded the loose ball home from a yard out.

Her sister Macy Ellis then put Town 3-1 up when she went on a solo run and completed it with a finish into the roof of the net.

Just before half-time Steel City pulled a goal back, but in the final minute of the half Beaumont made the score 4-2 with a good finish.

In the second half Town created many chances but most were well saved or pulled wide of the target and the win should see the team finish in third place in the table.
