Huddersfield Rugby Union Club have swooped to sign Oli Goss and Jarad Williams on loan from Yorkshire Carnegie.

They will provide extra strength and options as head coach Gareth Lewis plots to move his side away from the danger zone in National II North.

And both will go straight into the reckoning when Huddersfield host Tynedale at Lockwood Park on Saturday.

The 28-year-old Goss can play on the wing or at No13, while Williams, 25, is a lock – 6ft 4in tall and weighing in at 19st 5lb.

“Although the lads are likely to be with us only short term, I think they will be great additions,” said Lewis, whose squad had two training sessions this week ahead of the Tynedale clash.

“They come highly recommended by Ben Harris (the former Huddersfield player now at Carnegie) and will bring proven quality, experience, professionalism and leadership – all of which are required.

“I’m sure this news will be an added boost after last week’s win at Broadstreet and continues are excellent relationship with Yorkshire Carnegie.

“Both will train this week and come straight into the squad for January 2.”

Goss (5ft 11 and 13st 6lb) joined Carnegie in 2012-13 from Doncaster Knights, alongside his centre partner Fred Burdon, on a two-year contract, having impressed for Doncaster over two seasons.

An ankle injury at the start of that season meant he was unable to make his debut until October, in the ‘On the Road’ B&I Cup game against Jersey at York.

Goss established a regular first-team place, making 21 appearances and scoring three tries.

The following year he was in outstanding form and notched a further five tries in 24 games.

Although his preferred position is centre, he has played at scrum half and on the wing – and his versatility, which has been an asset for Carnegie, is sure to be a boon for Lewis as he bids to lift Field higher than third-bottom of the table.

Born in Rinten, Germany, he attended Bishop Wordsworth’s School in Salisbury and originally played for Bath’s Academy before signing for Doncaster.

He was a strength and conditioning coach at Doncaster, having studied for a Masters in the subject at Bolton University.

Back-rower Williams, from Pontypridd in Wales, joined Carnegie in 2013.

He was ruled out for the start of that season with a leg injury but he went on to make his debut against Bristol in the British and Irish Cup and made a further four appearances. He was one of the team’s most consistent performers during 2014-15, playing an influential role in his 18 appearances.

As well as playing for Carnegie, he has combined his time with studying for an MSc in Sports Coaching at Leeds Beckett University, and playing for their rugby union side, which made it to the BUCS Final at Twickenham.

He previously played for Hull RUFC and represented Wales Students in 2013, the same year he won the Pocklington 7s with Bishop Burton College.
