Calum Woods has the 200 career starts milestone in his sights as he fights to regain full fitness following a collar bone problem picked up in Town’s first pre-season friendly.

The Liverpool product who has made 186 full appearances – 135 for Dunfermline, 51 for Town – is back in training along with illness victim Jonathan Hogg.

And the versatile full-back, who has played 214 games in all, is eager to challenge for a berth in Town’s new-look Championship side.

Woods, who can play right or left-back, tussled with Jack Hunt and Scotland international Paul Dixon for a starting berth in 2012-13.

Now Town, who have been playing a 3-5-2 system, have additional wide options in Jake Carroll and Adam Hammill, as well as Liam Ridehalgh.

In addition, Tommy Smith and Robbie McIntyre are aiming to step up from Steve Eyre’s development squad after being handed new contracts.

Woods, signed in 2011, is contracted to Town until next summer having agreed an extension last year, with the club having the option of a further 12 months.

“I’m happy here and enjoying my football,” said the 26-year-old, who splits his time off between Huddersfield and Merseyside.

“It’s a great division, and with more derbies than ever this time around, it’s where you want to playing football.

“From a personal point of view, I just want to play as many games as possible, whether it’s on the left or the right.”

Injured at Chesterfield, Woods added: “It was a setback, but you just have to do the rehabilitation work and push to get back into things as soon as you can.”

Midfielder Hogg is pushing for a return at Millwall on Saturday after missing the 1-1 home draw with QPR.
