Huddersfield Town marksman James Vaughan is one of four nominees for the Skybet Championship Player of the Month award.

The 25-year-old striker has launched the season in style with six goals in five league matches – and eight in all competitions – since completing a £600,000 move from Norwich City.

Leading scorer last season with 14 when on loan from Carrow Road – he was voted Town’s Player of the Year – Vaughan has continued to show exactly why manager Mark Robins wanted him on board.

Football League expert Ivan Speck said: “James Vaughan has carried on his superb form from late last season with six goals in five games, including a hat-trick in the 5-1 win over Bournemouth.

“He has been leading the line superbly and finishing with his head as well as shots from long and close range.”

Also up for the August honour are Watford striker Troy Deeney, with five goals in as many games, QPR defender Clint Hill and Nottingham Forest midfielder Andy Reid.

The winner will be announced tomorrow after deliberation by the judging panel of Sky Sports’ Don Goodman, Football League Head of Communications John Nagle, League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Skybet Head of Football Paul Wiggins.

Meanwhile, Town are lining up a Premier League full-back to sign on loan once the loan transfer window opens again next week.
